A newcomer to politics, Kelvin Kotchilea is running in one of Canada’s largest ridings, and a riding among those most impacted by the climate crisis. A young Indigenous leader, Kotchilea has pledged to make tackling the climate crisis with a Green New Deal approach one of his key priorities if he defeats Liberal incumbent Michael McLeod. A longtime political fixture in the NWT, McLeod is another standard Liberal backbencher, upholding a dangerous status quo of half measures and climate delay.
